The population was 42,819 at the 2010 census, with a growth rate of 282.1 percent since 2000 (when the population was 11,205), making it the fastest growing city in the U.S. This growth is due to Lincoln being located in the area of rapid suburban development north of Sacramento.

Lincoln is part of the Sacramento-Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
